Soon WDOL.gov Is Dead. Long Live beta.SAM.gov

She was thinkin' 'bout her father, who she very rarely saw
Thinkin' 'bout Rosemary and thinkin' about the law
But, most of all she was thinkin' 'bout the Jack of Hearts

 -- Bob Dylan

For generations now, both Davis-Bacon wage determinations and Service Contract Act wage determinations have been posted at the “Wage Determinations On Line” website at WDOL.gov. The website was funded and created by the Department of Defense labor advisors led by the Navy. It was yeoman’s work, and it swept away the dark days of holding secret wage determinations behind a curtain maintained by the U.S. Department of Labor. In its time, it was a wonderful thing.

But now all things must pass. It was announced that WDOL.gov is moving effective June 13, 2019. Here is the formal announcement:

WDOL.gov is moving!

On June 13, 2019 WDOL.gov is moving here and will be called Wage Determinations. Test out the functionality and data from WDOL now on beta.SAM.gov. Visit our learning center to learn more about the transition. Note: Beta.SAM.gov is not the authoritative source for WDs until June 13.

The back story is supplied by Ken Goldman in his GSA Award Environment industry blog:

Wage Determinations OnLine.gov (WDOL.gov) Officially Decommissions on June 13, 2019

Submitted by kengoldman on Wednesday, March 27, 2019 - 12:29 PM

Wage Determinations OnLine.gov (WDOL.gov) will go away on June 13, 2019. That makes three down, seven more to go in our effort to combine 10, independent systems into one, streamlined system!

On June 13, 2019, and thereafter, everything you used to do in WDOL.gov, you will now do in beta.SAM.gov. The beta.SAM.gov site will become the authoritative (or official) source for wage determinations.

In beta.SAM.gov, the WDOL functionality will fall under the category (what we call ‘domain’) Wage Determinations. In order to use the “Follow” button on beta.SAM.gov to “watch” specific wage determinations,  you must log in. You always can learn more about new WDOL functionality in the Learning Center on the site.

After decommissioning WDOL.gov, users will automatically be redirected to the page below. The redirect page assists with the transition by providing easy access to:

·        Wage determination search

·        Learning Center for training information

·        Quickstart Guide

·        WD Transitional Video

Mr. Goldman doesn’t explicitly say, but presumably all the excellent library resources at WDOL.gov also will be transferred to beta.SAM.gov. It will no longer be the test site notwithstanding its “beta” name. It will be deemed “authoritative.” This event is a long time coming. It was supposed to happen in 2018. But apparently soon the king is dead. Long live the new king.
